How to Watch IPTV on Your Computer (Windows, Mac, Linux)

· 5 min read

Watching IPTV on a computer takes two things: the list your IPTV provider gave you, and a player that opens it properly. This guide covers four ways to watch IPTV on your computer: Windows, Mac, Linux, and the browser with nothing to install. All four use the same free player, Premium Player.

One thing up front: Premium Player is only a player. It contains no channels, films or series and sells none. You get the list, either Xtream Codes details or an M3U address, from your own IPTV provider.

What you need to watch IPTV on a computer

  • The Xtream Codes details your provider gave you (server address, username, password) or an M3U link.
  • A computer: Windows 10/11, an Apple Silicon Mac, or Linux.
  • Optionally, a guide (EPG) address from your provider. With Xtream Codes it often comes along automatically.

You do not need an account; Premium Player is free.

An IPTV player for Windows

It runs on the 64-bit versions of Windows 10 and 11. No Java or extra components are needed.

  1. On the Windows page, use Get it from Microsoft Store to open Premium Player IPTV in the Store.
  2. Press Get. The Store version is signed by Microsoft; Windows installs and updates it, and SmartScreen shows no warning.
  3. Open Premium Player and add your list.

If you can't use the Store, the same page has an unsigned .msi installer; if Windows says "unknown publisher", install it with More info › Run anyway. Don't install both on one computer: the Store version keeps its data apart, so you would have to add your lists again.

You navigate with the mouse and keyboard, and the keyboard's media keys work. The small window (PiP) keeps the stream in an always-on-top mini player that opens by itself when you minimise the app. Windows updates the Store version; with the .msi, the app tells you about a new version, verifies the installer and installs it.

An IPTV player for Mac

The Mac app needs an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 13 Ventura or newer. It is notarized by Apple, so macOS does not block the installation.

  1. Download the .dmg from the Mac page.
  2. Open it and drag Premium Player into Applications.
  3. Open the app and add your list.

The play/pause key and the playback controls in Control Center work. Intel Macs are not supported, but the browser option below is made for exactly that case.

IPTV on Linux and Ubuntu

On Linux there are three formats; which one you pick depends on your distribution:

  • AppImage: works on any distribution, needs no installation and updates itself. Make it executable (chmod +x) and open it.
  • .deb: for Ubuntu, Debian and Linux Mint, for example sudo apt install ./premium-player-…-linux-amd64.deb.
  • .rpm: for Fedora and openSUSE, for example sudo dnf install ./premium-player-…-linux-x86_64.rpm.

Supported are 64-bit Ubuntu 22.04 and later, Debian 12 and later, Linux Mint 21 and later, and Fedora 36 and later. Sound needs PulseAudio or PipeWire. If the AppImage will not start, install the libfuse2 package or run the file with --appimage-extract-and-run. The packages are on the Linux page. Your IPTV password is kept in the system keyring (GNOME Keyring, KWallet).

Nothing to install: IPTV in the browser

If you cannot install software, or you have an Intel Mac, the online IPTV player is enough. It opens in current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, with the same interface and features as the apps.

Two notes. Your lists are kept in the browser's own storage, so it does not work in a private window. And some providers do not allow connections from a browser; the web player notices this and tells you, and then the desktop app is the way to go. If your provider's address starts with http://, the free PrePlay HTTP Bridge extension may help.

Adding your list and watching

The steps are the same whichever way you chose:

  1. Open Premium Player and choose Add Xtream Codes or Add M3U playlist.
  2. For Xtream Codes, enter the server address (with the port), username and password. For M3U, paste the link.
  3. Save. A large list can take a minute or two to load; you can keep using the app meanwhile.

If you do not have a list yet, Take a look first opens a demo list of made-up channels, films and series, so you can see the interface and the TV guide before adding your own.

What you can do on the computer

  • Live TV sorted into categories and a day-by-day TV guide, with reminders for upcoming programmes.
  • A film and series catalogue with posters, continue watching, and the next episode starting by itself.
  • Favourites, and search across all the sources you have added at once.
  • Audio track, subtitle and subtitle delay selection; a parental lock.
  • Several lists at once, all in one interface.

We also have pages for other devices: Android TV and Fire TV and Android phones and tablets. All downloads are on the download page.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free to watch IPTV on a computer?

Premium Player is free and needs no account. What you pay your provider for the streaming service is between you and the provider.

Does Premium Player provide channels?

No. It is only a player and contains no channels, films or series. You get your list from your own IPTV provider.

Does the same list work on Windows, Mac and Linux?

Yes. You enter your Xtream Codes details or M3U address the same way on every device. Mind the number of connections your provider allows: watching with one account on several devices at once is not permitted by most providers.

Can I watch IPTV on a computer without installing anything?

Yes, with the online IPTV player. It opens in the browser and needs no download.
